The Stoneribs Society is an Internet channel for "cultural cosmology" - exploring the public expression of traditional world views.
The Stoneribs Society focuses on the archaeology and mythology of the First Nations experience of Northwestern North America, especially the 'trickster' cycles and monuments such as 'medicine wheels'. The approach is analytic and evidence-based.
The Stoneribs Society respectfully maintains a secure channel (a 'secret society') to safeguard sensitive information. The original source materials in the secure channel are intended for serious proponents and contributors only. The social web seems an appropriate gathering space to appreciate the virtual dimensions of cultural identity.
Use the Gleanr channel tools to subscribe to the public content streams that interest you. Questions for the Stoneribs Society and requests for access to the secure channel may be emailed to stoneribs-at-gmail-dot-com. For a sample of secure channel content please review the site record for the Big Horn medicine wheel.
"Stoneribs" is a mythological person from Haida traditions who lay under the base of a Totem Pole, holding it on their chest to enable the world to turn. By naming coincidence, on the Canadian prairies there were a number of carved "ribstones" that apparently held an analogous role.
