David's R&D career began in astronomy as Director of Observatories at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Later, an R&D project at Science World spun into being founder and leader of Brainium Inc. A continuing focus on innovation led him to accept the Robitaille Chair at UBC in 2000 and a concurrent role of Chief Research Officer at the New Media Innovation Centre (NewMIC) in Vancouver in 2002.
David's current role as Director of Digital Learning Projects in UBC's Faculty of Education is a great platform for strategic, collaborative, multidisciplinary R&D projects.
David's R&D expertise, in his role as conceiver, champion and principal investigator, have attracted an average of more than $1 million/year for more than a decade. In the last three years alone, these projects have launched or propelled seven new companies.
